What happens if I file my sales tax return late?

If you file your sales tax return late, you may be subject to penalties and interest charges. The penalty for a late return is 9% of the tax due, with a minimum penalty of $5. Interest is also charged on the unpaid tax at 3% per month.

What if I don't have any taxable sales for the reporting period?

What records do I need to keep for sales tax purposes?

You must keep accurate sales records and any deductions or exemptions claimed. This includes invoices, receipts, and other documentation supporting the information reported on your sales tax return. The Washington Department of Revenue recommends keeping these records for at least five years.
