Step-by-step process for filing sales tax in Arkansas

Let’s get right into the process of filing sales tax in Arkansas

Step 1: Access the Arkansas tax filing page

To begin filing your sales tax return, follow this link: https://www.atap.arkansas.gov/_/. You will be directed to the Arkansas Taxpayer Access Point (ATAP) login screen.

Step 2: Sign in to Your Account

Use your username and password to sign in to your ATAP account. If you don't have a username and password, you'll need to set them up. Usually, your username and password are created when you submit registration paperwork for a sales tax permit.

If you'd rather not handle the process of obtaining a sales tax permit or creating a state login yourself, Numeral can assist you with our Sales Tax Permit Registration Service.

Step 3: Navigate to your sales tax account

After signing in, you'll be directed to your dashboard. In your seller account, click “File return” below the “Return” tab. This will open the sales tax filing page.

From there, select the account for which you want to file a return by clicking the "Sales and Use Tax" button located to the left of the appropriate account type.

Step 4: Choose the filing period to initiate the filing process

On the next page, you'll see a list of filing periods.

This example business files sales tax returns monthly. Click on the correct filing period, then navigate to the right side of the screen and select "File or amend a return" to begin the filing process.

Step 5: Enter tax information

Now, you'll see a screen with "Enter Tax Information." Click on that link to proceed. On the next screen, you'll input your sales data.

If you're an In-State Seller, use the "Gross Receipts Tax" table to report your sales. If you're an Out-Of-State Seller, use the "Vendor Use Tax" table instead.

Enter your gross sales data on this page, then click "OK." You should now have the option to move on to the next step.

Step 6: Make payment

Now, finalize all your tax details and we’ll proceed to payment. Click on “Make payment” and go through the steps one by one. In this case, we’ll go with Direct Debit as our payment method and enter the details accordingly.

Select “Yes” if you’d like to receive a confirmation email and proceed to payment from there on. That’s it. You’ve completed your sales tax return filing and payment for Arkansas.
