Sandra Gering Gallery is pleased to present Seeing Things, an exhibition of new work by Erin O’Keefe from 22 February — 24 March 2001.

In these sculptures made of steel, sandblasted glass, Plexiglas, and mirror, O’Keefe continues her exploration of the potential disjunction of real and perceived space. Light (reflected and multiplied through the use of mirrors) and color (as line, plane, and field) are used to create and intensify optical ambiguities. Each sculpture has multiple spatial interpretations. These ambiguous and contradictory readings require the observer to see, and simultaneously to reevaluate the act of seeing. Perception becomes mutable and conscious.

Erin O’Keefe lives and works in New York City. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Cornell University in 1984, and a Masters Degree in Architecture from Columbia University in 1988. She is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at the New York Institute of Technology. This is her third solo exhibition at Sandra Gering Gallery.
