In the project room, Sandra Gering Gallery is pleased to present new acrylic on canvas paintings by Augusto Arbizo. Each work begins as a drip and pour painting and is created while the picture lies flat. After several layers of drips and veils, one or two forms are identified and a highly patterned background is integrated around these. Shape, color, and line are transformed by action in service of the artist's propositions.

Born in 1972 in the Philippines, Arbizo received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Cooper Union, NY, in 1995 and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1997. His paintings can also currently be seen in "Immediacies of the Hand: Recent Abstract Painting in New York," curated by Carter Ratcliff and Kim Sobel at the Hunter College/Times Square Gallery, NY.
