Sandra Gering Gallery is pleased to exhibit John F. Simon, Jr.'s edition CPU in the project room from 16 September to 16 October 1999.
The installation includes all twelve pieces in the edition published by John F. Simon, Jr. and Black Birch Editions.
CPU features original software written by Simon displayed on flat panel LCD screens mounted to acrylic plastic housing. As wall units, the
pieces function as constantly evolving "paintings".
The twelve works in the edition are physically identical, yet vary over time based on their programmed progression. An underlying abstract
composition is always discernable while on top of the composition is a circulation of colors and patterns. Simon defines the set of
parameters that allow complex variations to emerge.
The installation gives viewers the opportunity to see all twelve of the works from the edition running simultaneously; a situation that provides
access to a wide range of the possibilities of the work at once.
CPU is John F. Simon, Jr.'s second edition with Black Birch.
